More About MeI am an ICT Generalist with 18 years experience in the Ministry of One's and Zero's, specialising in leveraging open-source tools to create business solutions.
I am competent in an array of topics and strongly believe in the concept of continuous improvement through iteration. I am always seeking to expand my knowledge about each technology, as well as looking for new technologies to take advantage of.
Other technologies I am competent with include Windows Server, Active Directory, FreeBSD, Python, Virtual Private Networks, SSL/TLS, DNS, Backups, Disaster Recovery, and Blue Team Security. I also have many years of experience with audio and lighting technologies as a hobby.
My work experience is augmented by my varied volunteer roles and hobbies, without which much of my personal development would never have happened.
We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

June 2020 - Present
Currently exploring a new opportunity working remotely for a Silicon Valley based FinTech company. Working daily with Ubuntu, GitHub, PHP and other web-based technologies.
November 2010 - May 2020
After joining this fast-paced FMCG environment, I personally implemented Virtualization, SAN, Active Directory, Group Policy, Network Monitoring Systems, In-House Email, Perimeter Security, and Network Segmentation. Developed various bespoke systems to faciliate and support the just-in-time manufacturing environment. I was also the Project Manager for the 2016 implementation of a new ERP solution. This required refinement and redevelopment of many business processes to optimise business operations.
My affinity for systems and process, as well as my involvement in process refinement for ERP implementation, led to an additional leadership role in Warehouse Operations, leading a team of 20 employees across 2 shifts in Warehouse Operations. Our team provides key operational support to Manufacturing Operations, as well as ensuring daily supply of goods with ~99% order fill to major retailers across Australia, as well as export operations to New Zealand, Asia and the Middle-East. This role included redeployment of an afternoon shift team, expansion to a second warehouse facility, and significant cost reduction through reduction of third-party storage and implementation of specialist equipment to improve efficiency.
2018 - Present
Development of all technical aspects of the community radio station. Working with limited resources common in community organizations, I have implemented a business grade computing environment to support on-air and administrative activities. I also provide support and development to broadcast audio equipment including studio and transmission room hardware. Creation of policies and documentation to empower and guide other volunteers.
2007 - 2010
Primary point of contact for managed perimeter security solution. Supporting large and small clients in private enterprise, government and educational spaces across Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA and Canada.
Our core services revolved around Layer 3 and DPI firewalling, anti-spam protection, and filtering web proxies. We also provided managed VPN and network consulting services.
2002 to 2007
My fundamental passion and competence for ICT facilitated a lateral progression from Warehouse Operations to ICT Department. Supported internal ICT Operations for wholesale operations at offices in Australia and New Zealand, as well a retail operations of franchise stores across Australia through in-house development of Business Management System software package.
I had the unique opportunity to SysAdmin and write code for a PICK/D3 based ERP system. This was a multiuser, time-sharing operating system with a unique MultiValue database that can be traced back to the GIRLS platform in 1965 on an IBM S/360.
2013
Through a RPL program I was able to gain formal recognition of my experience, including fundamental soft-topics such as copyright, ethics and privacy, as well as matching needs with the strategic direction of the enterprise.
2001 - Present
Qualified Firefighter, and elected officer responsible for Road Crash Rescue functions of our brigade, as well as contributing to the general leadership of our members in conjunction with the other officers. Being part of this team has given me many years of teamwork and leadership development in a unique environment where success and failure has direct influence on the physical and mental well-being of not only your 'customers' but also your peers.
In 2019, I conducted research into a new road rescue extrication technique, including training with the New Zealand Fire Service to assess the viability of the technique for use in Australia.
2004 - 2010
After attending the RYLA program as a participant, I immediately joined the leadership and planning team. Each year our team of ~12 organized and conducted a 5-day personal development seminar for 60 to 100 youths identified as future leaders within their community by Rotary Clubs around Melbourne.
October 2018
I started flight training in the early 2000's but never completed my license until 2018. Achievement of this personal goal was genuinely satisfying, and I have been able to translate many of the attitudes and skills to other areas of life.
